IELTS Academic & IELTS General Test Format:

Speaking: 11 - 14 minutess
The Speaking module evaluates your spoken English fluency and communication skills in a one - on - one personal interview. You may expect an introductory conversation, questions about familiar topics and a discussion of a specific topic in some detail. Your Speaking section is broadly divided in to three parts.

In part one, you will be asked very simple questions about you. There may 4 - 5 such questions in part one. You will be given a topic for detailed description in part two. You will get a minute to prepare your response. You may make notes on the ‘Cue Card’ on which the topic of part is written. Thereafter, you will be asked to speak your response in 1 - 2 minutes. You are free to look at the notes while you speak. Finally, part three will have some questions for discussion related to part two. The whole audio of the interview is recorded and kept for future reference. Your score will be based on the clarity and relevance of your response to the topic.

Always speak directly to the Examiner, not to the recording equipment. Whenever you reply 'Yes' or 'No' to the Examiner's questions, add more details to your answer. In each case, aim to explain at least one point.
The IELTS speaking test is a face-to-face interview with one examiner consisting of 3 parts and lasts 11-14 Minutes. The test is recorded, but the examiner assesses your performance during the test and decides on your band score as soon as the test has finished.
'fumbles' are fine in IELTS speaking. The examiner understands that you are nervous so don't worry about that.
You can retake any one section of the IELTS test, whether it's Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking.
The IELTS speaking test is graded by your performance in all parts of the test. The examiner will check your English language using the 4 marking criteria for each part of the test. If you are strong in speaking part 1 but not in the other parts, then you will not get a good score.
