IELTS Academic & IELTS General Test Format:

Writing: 2 Tasks - 60 Minutes This module assesses your written English skills in terms of task achievement, grammar, vocabulary and coherence. A candidate will be given two writing tasks, i.e. a descriptive response and a more analytical or persuasive response. Writing Task 2 will be a descriptive or a persuasive essay in both IELTS Academic and IELTS General. However, in IELTS Academic will be a picture description. The given picture may be a pie chart, bar graph, line graph, table, flow chart, map, etc. Whereas, in General Writing Task 1, the candidates are asked to write a formal letter or an informal letter.

In both Academic IELTS and General IELTS, Writing Task 1 is scored out of 3 in a multiple of half band. Whereas, the score in Writing Task 2 will be given out of 6 and in a multiple of half band. The sum of scores in both the tasks your total score in the Writing Section. Your given scores are based on the coherence, clarity, relevance to the topic, grammar, etc.

If you desire to pursue your higher studies in an English speaking country, such as The USA, Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia, etc., you will be required to take IELTS Academic.
An overall score of 7 bands or above is a good score in IELTS Academic. Note that you should not get below 6 in any of the modules: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
In IELTS, there are four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
We recommend that students spend a minimum of 6-8 weeks or 30 days preparing for the IELTS exam, focusing on grammar, reading, writing, listening & speaking. We also recommend test takers to spend about 3 to 4 hours every day improving their speed, test strategies and skills.
IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the date of the test. This means that most universities, immigration authorities, and employers typically accept IELTS scores that are up to two years old.
There is no specific limit on the number of attempts for the IELTS.
You should take IELTS Academic within a year before you start sending your Admission Applications, as the validity of IELTS Academic is two years only.
It's very difficult to get 8.5 bands in IELTS Academic. Nevertheless, you may try by improving your grammar and vocabulary and developing high-scoring templates of Writing Task one and Writing Task 2. Some of the students of Global Course have scored 8.5 bands in IELTS Academic.
If you plan to study in higher education or seek professional registration in an English-speaking country, you might need to take an IELTS Academic. The General Training test looks at your English-language capabilities in a work or social environment.
It is your choice. You can decide which one to do first. Most students do task 1 first and I would recommend that.
IELTS essays are designed to be quite short, between 270 and 290 words. This means you will have in total either four or five paragraphs with about a total of 290 words.
Irrelevant topics are not allowed in IELTS exam. Candidates must use a clear paragraph structure. Don't repeat the question or the idea. Put each idea and your opinion in each paragraph.
